Active Program Horses

Andrew

Andrew "Andy"

Andrew arrived at our barn on July 9th, 2006 and quickly became a favorite of all the volunteers and staff. Andy is a Norwegian Fjord gelding, who came to us from the steep mountainsides of North Carolina. In his younger years, Andy pulled his weight as a driving horse, and looked cute doing it. He was donated to Hands and Hearts by Kim Nord.

Kaylee

Kaylee "The Queen"

Kaylee's a beautiful bay Appendix mare with a heart of gold. We are the second center to employ her services and we couldn't be happier that she's here. In her younger years she worked as a dressage horse and will still do a few tricks if you ask nicely. She was donated to Handsand Hearts by Jackie Lewis.

Luke

Luke "Lou"
Luke is a sorrel Walking Horse gelding with a big blaze and abig heart. If asked, he would reply that the best way to get to know someone is to nibble on their sleeve and that his favorite food is lead ropes. Luke is leased to Hands and Hearts by Terrell Singletary.

Calvin

Calvin "Cal"
Calvin's settled in nicely to our barn- and into our hearts. He quickly became third in command of the boys' pasture and decided to pair closely with Big Jim after the loss of his friend Pierre. He has become the joker of the family. Calvin is owned by Hands and Hearts for Horses.

Chief

Chief "Chee-ha"
Chief's a palomino Quarter Horse gelding with quite a resume. Before coming towork as a therapeutic riding horse, he spent his days charging into battle as a civil war reenactment horse. Chief's favorite time of year is hunting season, when he can relive his war-time days. He was donated to Hands and Hearts by Patty Willis.

Hobby "Hobbs"
Hobby comes to us from Tallahassee, FL where she was a pleasure and competition horse to Kelley, Elizabeth, and Caroline Unglaub for 15 years. Notable to do the competitive riding of her youth, Hobby looks forward to sharing her compassionate nature with our riders and volunteers. Hobby was donated to Hands and Hearts by the Unglaub family.

   Nugget "Idgit"
Nugget comes to us from Northern Virginia, where he loved cross country jumping, and waiting for the sprinkler to cool him off during the hot summer days.  Though the smallest of the boys, he always runs the show when out to pasture.  He enjoys racing feeder Zach Jones in to breakfast every morning.  We look forward to many fun adventures with Nugget.
   Tee J Time "Tee"
Though her recent years were spent as a trail horse in the Tallahassee countryside, Tee J comes to Hands and Hearts with experience in both english and western disciplines.  Though somewhat stubborn for her riders, Tee J has come to enjoy her job as a therapy horse at Hands and Hearts.  In her first few months, she took her first riders into competition, bringing home gold with her top seated rider.  We look forward to spending many more years with Tee J.
   Toby "Eubanks"
Toby comes to us on lease from one of our volunteers, Coleen Eubanks.  Having befriended one of our long time therapy horses, Chief, Toby has become a great addition to the program, riding our smaller and more spastic riders.  Though a typical stubborn pony to the core, he is loved by all and is happy and proud to call Hands and Hearts home.
