Chief’s a palomino Quarter Horse gelding with quite a resume. Before coming to work as a therapeutic riding horse, he spent his days charging into battle as a civil war reenactment horse. Chief’s favorite time of year is hunting season, when he can relive his war-time days. Donated By: Patty Willis |

Andrew arrived at our barn on July 9th, 2006 and quickly became a favorite of all the volunteers and staff. Andy is a 13 year old Norwegian Fjord gelding, who came to us from the steep mountainsides of North Carolina .

Calvin’s settled in nicely to our barn– and into our hearts. He’s decided to pair closely with Big Jim after the loss of his friend Pierre and seems to be adjusting well and still keeps his jokester personality!

Horses are a big part of our program, and it is no secret that without them we would not be able to serve our clients. If you would like to adopt one of our horses to help facilitate their care please contact Kirsten or Virginia at Handsandhearts@rose.net.

Kaylee’s a beautiful bay Appendix mare with a heart of gold. We are the second center to employ her services and we couldn’t be happier that she’s here. In her younger years she worked as a dressage horse and will still do a few tricks if you ask nicely.

At the barn, Bert is often thought to have been a Western pony in his younger years. Now the dark bay Dartmoor enjoys teasing volunteers and getting on his mother’s nerves so that she’ll do more Parelli sessions with him. What a sweetie.

Bert “The Flirt” |
|
Before Rebel came to Hands and Hearts he was used as a pleasure trail horse by his mother. In his youth he was a barrel horse, and we need to be careful not to show him barrels in any certain pattern.

Kit is a small chestnut Walking Horse cross gelding and a good friend of Bert and Buster (a non-program horse). He’s normally the first out to the pasture or back to his stall for turnout, and due to medical problems is unable to carry riders for now. He’s on the road to recovery, and we hope to welcome him back to lessons soon! Donated By: Janie Davison

Luke is a 11 year old sorrel Walking Horse gelding with a big blaze and a big heart. If asked, he would reply that the best way to get to know someone is to nibble on their sleeve and that his favorite food is lead ropes.

Many of the horses look up to Jim. True, he’s 33 years old, but we think it’s more because he is a Quarter Horse/Percheron cross. Before coming to our barn he worked in the Police Force, keeping his town safe from over-grown grass.

Big Jim “Jimbo” |

Scottie is a 13 year old bay thoroughbred gelding. He holds the track record at Belmont Race Track for a 2 year old, and his grandfather is the legend himself Secretariat. Our hope is that he will carry some of our riders to show glory. His favorite treats are peppermints.

SunFlower “Sunny” |
|
SunFlower was bought by the program in March of 2006, and after some time we realized that she did not want to be a therapy horse. However, that was before we found out that all she wanted to do was play. We took her to a Parelli clinic and ever since she keeps doing better and better for us. We are proud to have her back in the program Owned By: Hands and Hearts for Horses |

Hobby |
|
Hobby comes to us from Tallahassee, FL where she was a pleasure and competition horse to Kelley, Elizabeth, and Caroline Unglaub for 15 years. Not able to do the competitive riding of her youth, Hobby looks forward to sharing her compassionate nature with our riders and volunteers.
